House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)

With Ghost Squad finally out of the way, it was time to turn to working through Sega’s other meatier, lightgun shooter. It’s hilarious. Really. Not just Isaac’s constant swearing, but the dialogue, the cutscenes, and the fact you steal an ice cream van. Oh yes. I’m up to what would appear, from the level select screen, to be the final level now.

New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U)

I may have already completed it, but the game just keeps giving! Today, while trying to get all the big coins (I’ve all of them on the first two worlds, and most on the fourth now), I stumbled across a secret exit in a ghost house. That opened up yet another level for me to do! I also had a great time playing with my daughter helping on the game pad. She was laying down blocks over holes, and helping …

New Super Mario Bros U (Wii U)

This is lovely. I mean, really lovely. And not just the graphics (which are also lovely) either. It’s a massive, varied, pretty and inventive platformer. It’s harder than the far-too-easy DS and Wii NSMB games too, and better for it. Sure, I’ve completed four worlds (1, 2, 4 and 7, for some reason) and have about 90 lives, but some of the levels along the way have been real gamepad smashers. Take the Paratrooper Beetles level. It’s a vertically autoscrolling level, …

Super Mario World (Wii)

New Virtual Console Game Day! Yaay! Mind you, I haven’t really played Mario Kart 64 much after buying that last week, but that’s mainly because The Castlevania has stolen my brains. So I downloaded Super Mario World, and tried very hard to get used to the “proper” way of holding the pad (I have this freaky way of doing it with the SNES pad and the classic controller for the Wii isn’t quite right). I think I may have it …

Super Mario 64 (Wii): COMPLETED!

Right. So that’s now two Wii games completed, but both are actually old titles. Ho hum. Anyway. Most of the rest of the required stars came from Jolly Roger Bay, Tall Tall Mountain, Dire Dire Docks, and the ghost house. Also picked up a few secret stars (two from the rabbit included), and one or two each from Rainbow Ride and Tick Tock Clock. Finally, it was on to Bowser, who I defeated first time (I didn’t even die on …

New Super Mario Bros (DS)

Still working through World 4 collecting coins. Although I only completed two levels with all three coins, I have collected one or two in each of the other levels. I’m completely lost as to how to get the third coin in the Ghost House, as well as a couple of other coins that I can’t even see, let alone get to. Well done to Nintendo for making a game that’s easy and bloody hard with only one difficulty setting!

New Super Mario Bros (DS)

After a week or more off it (Oblivion and stuff sucked my time away), I’m back on it, getting coins and unlocking routes. I’m pretty sure i’ve unlocked all the actuall levels now, but not all the warp cannons and houses. Anyway, today I finished off all the coins in World 3, and found the Warp Cannon to World 6 in the World 3 ghost house. Once in World 6 I set about finding some more coins, and managed two …

New Super Mario Bros (DS)

OK, so with the game started (and completed) in just a few hours yesterday, I set about opening up all the pathways I’d missed – mainly with the aim of opening up Worlds 4 and 7. It seems some of the pathways I missed first run through were, in fact, the “normal” routes, and I’d accidently taken secret exits and therefore detoured. Specifically, on World 6 I seem to have missed out almost the entire set of levels. So, plenty …

Super Princess Peach

Picked up from World 3, Level 2 where I’d previously made it up to. It, like all good (and bad) Mario-derived games has, is a Ghost House type level, so there were Boos and dark bits and stuff. And an irritating pick-a-door puzzle bit on one of the levels. Shockingly (or rather, not), the end of level boss was King Boo. He was pretty easy though, and I killed him first go. World 4 was the obligatory lava world, and …

Scream Collector (Steam Deck): COMPLETED!

With a thousand PC games to choose from in my Steam/Epic/GOG/Itch libraries, mostly unplayed, you’d think I would never need to even look in the Steam store for something else to pass the time, right? And, if I did, you’d expect I might be picking out some high profile or highly lauded title that I don’t already own, yeah? Well, no. For I stumbled across this shambolic looking free-to-play clicker game instead, and then spent THIRTY HOURS completing it. No, …

Moving Out (PS5): COMPLETED!

This is one of those intentionally obstructive co-op arcade games like Overcooked, and it has a similar art style and sense of humour to that game too. But, it’s a lot easier and I (well, we – daughter was on controller 2) had more fun with it. The aim is to clear a house of (mostly) furniture, by carrying it to the waiting lorry and packing it all in so it fits. Smaller items, like toasters and boxes, can be …

Dark Arms (Switch): COMPLETED!

This game is one I have for the NeoGeo Pocket and I remember I enjoyed it at the time, but don’t remember much about it. Aside from you shoot baddies to get souls which upgrade your guns. Seems, now I’ve completed it on the NeoGeo Pocket Colour Selection on the Switch, that really that’s all there is to it. OK, so not quite. There’s a story which is badly translated and makes little sense, and you don’t just have a …
